Appearance
Pale lemon colour in the glass, reserved, tropical, gooseberry, luminous, peach, apricot, stone fruit, mouthwatering, chalky.
Nose
Medium intensity on the nose. Aroma characteristics: quiet, evolve with more tropical aromas like pineapple, gooseberry, green mango, lemon thyme, lime zest
Palate
The wine is dry with a bracing and somewhat angular acidity. Medium alcohol and medium minus body, its youthful acidity resulting in a leaner, more austere style. Time will chisel the wine into shape, following in the footsteps of its predecessors. Flavour characteristics of gooseberry, green fig, and stone fruit carry through, medium-plus finish.
Conclusion
Tightly corseted in its youth, the 2020 Morningstar Semillon will develop a magnitude of character. The wine slowly reveals vivid gooseberry and green apple aroma, hemmed with fresh thyme, adding a cooler note. Confidently made, the wine’s authoritative and clean-cut acidity forms its backbone, adorned with handsome stone fruit on the palate. Albeit seemingly lighter in style, the wine is playful yet oozing concentration on the midpalate with a lingering, briny finish.
